TOLIX® Model A Chair History and Its Replica, Our Viktor
TOLIX® Model A Chair: A Rich History and Our Variant, Viktor
Have you noticed the growing trend of industrial chic interior decor? It’s a fusion of sleek metal furniture paired with warm wooden accents, combining to create an organic and stunning aesthetic. This style has gained immense popularity in cafes and bistros, where vintage yet urban steel furniture creates inviting environments. Acknowledging the shift in restaurant design, we launched an affordable replica of the iconic TOLIX® Model A chair, a staple in contemporary settings. We proudly name ours Viktor. Here’s a brief history that led us to develop Viktor – a chair that embodies both quality and affordability.
Zuohui aims to serve various industries globally, prioritizing quality above all. We are dedicated to providing our customers with exceptional, high-value products, and together, we can craft a brighter future.
The original TOLIX® chair was designed by Xavier Pauchard in the aftermath of World War I. His drive to manufacture galvanized metal wares led to the creation of sheet metal chairs and stools. By trademarking his brand, he introduced the Model A chair, followed closely by matching stools. His entrepreneurial spirit helped the TOLIX® brand become a popular choice in both residential and commercial spaces, including offices, hospitals, museums, and cafe terraces. The company's international presence peaked in the late 20th century, reaching an impressive output of 60,000 units annually with an 80-member workforce.
The TOLIX® legacy remained within the Pauchard family until the early 21st century. Chantal Andriot acquired the brand in 2004, breathing new life into TOLIX®. By enlisting innovative designers, she revamped the classic chair’s functionality to align it with modern tastes. With advanced manufacturing techniques, the Model A chair regained its global popularity.
Many restaurant owners approached us with requests for this iconic design, pushing us to work with our manufacturers to create a similar chair at a more accessible price, all without infringing upon the original design. Thus, Viktor emerged. This chair ensures you can achieve the desired industrial chic and urban ambiance in your restaurant without compromising on quality or style. Our Viktor line has undergone commercial weight testing, crafted from durable 16-gauge rolled and stamped steel. Its finish—achieved through a ten-step process—exudes the unique abrasions that enhance its character. Each chair features non-marring rubber glides to protect flooring, and they can be conveniently stacked for versatility.
The Viktor name was chosen through a fun internal competition at East Coast Chair & Barstool, with one of our customer care specialists, Kerry, recommending the winning name. Now, every time you see an industrial chic steel restaurant chair, you can think of Viktor and the story it represents.
