What is steel pipe pile

Steel pipe piles employing circular steel pipes, and tubes play a valuable role as basic materials for civil engineering and construction due to their high strength and uniform quality. The numbers of large-scale construction projects on soft ground or in coastal areas, and of marine civil engineering projects, are also on the increase, making earthquake-resistance of structures an even more important issue. Steel pipe piles can meet all of these requirements. Because they have high strength and earthquake resistance, steel pipe piles can make highly reliable foundations.

Advantages of steel pipe pile

As opposed to other options for deep foundations, pipe piles offer several advantages. They lower costs because they are capable of being tailored to meet specific load bearing requirements. They are simple to drive and install, and they’re easy to inspect and test before use. They are sturdy and unlikely to crack or otherwise get damaged while they are being driven into the ground. Additionally, pipe piles can be added to bolster foundation support after construction and during various phases of construction.

Common Sizes

Pipe piles come in a variety of sizes that can support loads between 50 and 500 kips. They may be several inches in diameter to several feet in diameter. Common sizes range from 8” in diameter to over 50” in diameter. If you’re looking to buy used pipe pile, you should have no problem finding plenty of options in this range, with the highest number of options in the diameter range of 18” to 28”. Pipe piles can be joined together to create pile structures that are hundreds of feet long.

Features of steel pipe pile

1. Large vertical-bearing capacity

By driving the pipe piles into firm bearing layers, they exhibit a large vertical-bearing capacity.

2. High bending strength

Steel pipe piles with high stiffness and high bending strength enable resistance to considerable horizontal force during earthquakes.

3. Excellent environmental performance

Piles with small section areas realize less earth removal and low vibration and noise.

4. Custom fit for each structure

Various pile lengths, diameters, and thicknesses contribute to the economical design.

5. Easy production of longer piles and jointing piles

Longer products can be manufactured, and, as joining piles by welding is also easy, it is possible to apply these to deep water and deep underground structures.

6. Easy jointing with superstructures

Jointing with upper concrete structures is easy, using reinforcing steel bars at the top of piles.

7. Easy handling

Steel that’s light and tough contributes to easy handling and transport.

Steel pipe pile production process :

With competitive price and timely delivery, Jianhua Holdings Group sincerely hope to be your supplier and partner.

1. Blasting and rust removal: The surface of the steel pipe is cleaned to remove any scale, rust, or other contaminants through blasting or chemical treatment.

2. Cutting: The steel pipe is cut into the required length according to the design specifications.

3. Pre-drilling: Holes are drilled in the pipe at predetermined intervals to facilitate the installation of reinforcing bars and to allow for concrete to flow into the voids during the pile driving process.

4. Welding: The steel casing is welded together to ensure a watertight and structurally sound pile.

5. Reinforcement placement: rebars (steel rods) are placed inside the pipe according to the design requirements to provide additional strength to the pile.

6. Concrete filling: The pipe is filled with concrete, which surrounds and encases the reinforcing bars, creating a composite structure.

7. Curing: The concrete is allowed to cure, harden, and gain strength over time.

8. Testing: The pile might be subjected to various tests such as load tests, integrity tests, or corrosion tests to ensure that it meets the design specifications and quality standards.

9. Protection: To protect the pile from corrosion, it might be coated with a layer of protective material such as paint, galvanization, or a plastic covering.

10. Storage and transportation: Once the piles are produced, they need to be stored and transported carefully to the construction site.

Hailuoto Causeway

Road access to Hailuoto has been studied since the early s. Current general plan was made in and the HAIKI-alliance for the project was formed in . The construction began in May and it will be completed in . Economically the road access in quite expensive, but on the other hand both of the ferries are getting old and they need to be replaced with new ones. Also the continuous operating costs of the ferries are not low.

Pumping station 40 - Luleå

Luleå is a region in growth. Its existing water and waste system is now 60-100 years old and in great need of upgrading to deal with the growing population. By , the population is expected to reach 100 000 inhabitants. “Östre länken” was initiated in and will be ready in . It consists of 4 new pumping stations and 20 km of water pipes with a diameter of up to 2 meters. This is Luleå Municipality’s biggest construction project ever and has an estimated price tag of up to SEK 2bn. There are already 70 pumping stations in the area to ensure the transportation of fresh water from the Lule River to end users and then transport the used water back to Uddebo wastewater treatment plant.

Reconstruction of Klaipeda Northern Breakwater

In the project ‘Reconstruction of Klaipeda Northern Breakwater’, the entrance of the harbour of Klaipeda was strengthened and renewed. In the course of this construction work, a retaining wall was built underwater at the foot of the breakwater at the narrowest point of the entrance. Through the installation of this wall, it was possible to design a rectangular cross-section between the northern and southern breakwaters, thus achieving a depth independent of the breakwater slope. Main contractor for the project was Depenbrock Ingenieurwasserbau GmbH & Co. from Germany.

Underpinning of As Oy Matti in Turku, Finland

Residential building of As Oy Matti was originally built on end bearing timber piles in the end of s. The level of the building has been followed for some years and the first leveling data is from . During the first years of leveling, the building was in practice non-settling. Since there has been clear settlement on one area of the building. The settlement rate accelerated during years and , which emerged the need for underpinning of the building.

SSAB steel piles to Finland’s largest piling site

Metsä Fibre, part of Metsä Group, is building a new bioproduct mill in Kemi next to existing pulp mill. The new mill will consume 7.6 million m3 of wood in a year and produce 1.5 million tons of pulp of which 70 % will be exported. Metsä Fibre’s investment to Kemi bioproduct mill is worth 1.85 billion euros and it will increase Finland’s export revenue with 0.5 billion euros annually. SSAB supplied displacement piles and micropiles for this new bioproduct mill, which Metsä Fibre is currently building in Kemi, Finland.

SSAB Large diameter piles in deep and steep Norwegian fjords

Green shipping has long been a goal for Norwegian transportation. This has led to heavy investments in electric and hybrid transportation ferries. These ferries are used to allow road traffic to pass over the huge number of fjords along the Norwegian coast line. In , 70 ferries out of a total 200, more than 1/3, had been replaced by electric ones. This transition has been backed by national funding and has also triggered demand for infrastructure development.
