There are two types of man lifts when it comes to training and they are considered different in the eyes of OSHA. The first is the push-around man lift where employees have to manually wheel the lift around. They are also known as a vertical mast lift. The other kind is a vehicle-mounted man lift where it has power to move it and this would be considered an aerial lift. Basically, if you have to move a man lift by hand it is a scaffold, if it can drive it then is an aerial lift. Since a non-drivable push-around man lift would technically be a scaffold, on the industry the OSHA standard would be 29 CFR .454 would apply for both construction and General Industry. The operating manual that should come with the lift will also have some training advice.
